The Mechanical Step Screen system is widely accepted and successful due to its function, the easy to understand operation method, the simple cleaning method without any aids, easy servicing, its ability to handle very large screenings volumes and its operating reliability. It can be used as the fine mechanical treatment equipment at waste water treatment plants. Step screens are intended for fine treatment and extraction of fine and medium waste solids from industrial and domestic waste water with their subsequent unloading into the transporter or waste bin. The first step in the lower section of the screen is covered by a plate so that the lower section of the screen is covered by a plate so that the waste water flow is not directed against it but onto the first step instead. also coarse material is routed directly onto the first steps of the lamella unit. Such optimal inflow conditions eliminate sedimentation in front of the screen. They can be suitable for any flow rate and has high separation efficiencies with the optional facility for lifting of screenings from the bottom level.
Mechanical Step Screen are mainly available in two categories:
The Screen consists of a series of stationary and mobile steps alternating with each other. As the effluent flows through the step screen, a screening mat develops along the surface of the screen. The mobile steps progressively lift the mat of solids along the inclination of the screen. On reaching the top of the step screen, the solids are discharged by gravity into a screw conveyor or similar device. Coarse screens are distinguished from the fine screens by the space opening. Coarse screens usually have a spacing of 6mm and larger where as fine screens spacing is usually between 1.5mm to 6mm.
